A gift of long-term appreciated stocks or other securities may provide you with greater tax advantages than a gift of cash. You may deduct the current market value of the stock on the date of giving as a charitable gift and avoid any capital gains tax on the stocks appreciation value.

A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian payable to a qualified charitable organization.
