Chard and Herb Tart

Ingredients 

Number of Servings: 8

  • FEATURED: 1 pre-made (or home-made) pie crust

  • FEATURED: 1 bunch of chard, sliced and diced

  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil 

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced 

  • ½ tsp. Salt, divided 

  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper 

  • 2 tsp. dried dill 

  • 2 tsp. dried parsley 

  • Zest of ½ lemon 

  • 1 ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese 

  • 1 large egg 

Try something new and add 1 or more of these! 

  • Add your favorite seasonings in place of dill, parsley, and the lemon zest. 

  • Substitute 1/4 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese for 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese.

Cook Time: 45 min

Total Time: 60 min

  1. Follow packaging instructions for thawing pie crust, or another recipe to make crust. 

  2. Thinly slice chard leaves and dice the stems. 

  3. In a large skillet, over medium high heat, add olive oil, onion, and chard stems, ½ tsp. salt, ½ tsp. pepper, and cook until soft, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. 

  4. Add dill, parsley, lemon zest, and chard leaves. Cook, stirring constantly, until leaves are wilted, about 4 minutes. 

  5. Remove from heat, add remaining salt, and pepper, and allow to cool. 

  6. Add cheese and egg into mixture, stir until well incorporated.  

  7. Pour into pie crust and bake until set, about 45 to 50 minutes. 

  8. Serve warm and enjoy!
